The primary object of the Probus Club of Ledbury is to enable members to meet socially and informally on a regular basis. We hold weekly Monday morning meetings, which provide a friendly and informal atmosphere for social contact, and at which a speaker delivers a talk on a subject of general interest to club members. Our talks generally last between 45 minutes to an hour, after which there is a lively question and answer session. Some talks are given by the members themselves, which enriches the range and scope of topics being discussed. A few of our talks are open to members’ guests, as indicated in our programme. The emphasis is on providing an interesting, entertaining and sociable morning.
If you are a member of the club or give external talks to clubs such as ours, please email our Speaker Secretary in the first instance for help and information. Please also see INFORMATION FOR SPEAKERS document for detailed information.
Our meeting hall is equipped with modern facilities including a Windows 11 laptop and projector. Generally, unless you use a MAC, speakers need to bring only a USB memory stick with PowerPoint or equivalent and we will do the rest. MAC users will need to bring their device and a HDMI adaptor.
We also use radio mics for the speaker, and for audience participation during the active Q&A session that follows each talk.
Our finale for 2023 was an inspirational talk given and demonstrated by Max Keen who, dressed in his finest regalia, and told an expectant audience about the English Civil War – it’s effect on the participants, the everyday folk, our cities and castles. Max’s lively and animated talk encompassed King and Parliament, and some of the key players including Prince Rupert who reportedly supped at the Talbot Inn, Ledbury. What a fantastic way to end our season – before going down ourselves to – yes, you’ve guessed it! – the very same Talbot.
